Starting a new relationship is hard in itself. This is especially so when you come into it envisioning that it will inevitably end. Being a defeatist isn't as crazy as it may seem-- the dating game harbors its demons.
Why is it so hard to just revel in the 'now'? Isn't that the definition of ZEN anyway-- being in the moment, taking each element in, being appreciative of all that surrounds, without thinking of the past or worrying of the future?
I'd say those monks may have had something there...
